Many women who complete a surrogacy journey find it to be one of the most fulfilling experiences of their lives. It’s not uncommon for a surrogate to feel so connected to the process that she begins wondering: Can I do this again? The short answer is: yes, it’s absolutely possible to be a surrogate more than once.
Why Women Choose to Become Surrogates Again
After completing a surrogacy journey, some surrogates feel called to help another family. Whether it's because of a positive relationship with intended parents, a smooth pregnancy experience, or the desire to contribute again, the motivation to return is powerful—and valid.
Some of the reasons repeat surrogates give include:
Feeling emotionally fulfilled by the journey
Wanting to help another family build their dream
Having a smooth and healthy first surrogacy pregnancy
Loving the surrogate community and support system

Are There Limits on How Many Times You Can Be a Surrogate?
Yes, but they depend on the agency, fertility clinic, and medical guidelines. Most agencies and clinics follow ASRM (American Society for Reproductive Medicine) recommendations, which typically allow for up to five total deliveries (including your own biological children).
This means if you've had three children of your own and one surrogate delivery, you might only be eligible for one more journey—depending on your health and delivery history.
Each case is evaluated individually, but factors considered usually include:
Total number of pregnancies and deliveries
Type of previous deliveries (e.g., vaginal vs. C-section)
Complications in past pregnancies
Time passed since the last delivery
Overall physical and emotional health

What’s Different the Second Time Around?
While many steps of the surrogacy process remain the same, repeat surrogates often experience the journey differently:
✅ Faster Matching
Experienced surrogates are in high demand. Intended parents often feel more confident choosing someone who’s already completed a successful journey.
✅ Streamlined Screening
You’ve already been through the psychological and medical evaluations, so while you’ll still be re-screened, the process may feel quicker and more familiar.
✅ Increased Confidence
The second time around, you know what to expect. Many repeat surrogates report feeling more empowered and less anxious going into appointments, transfer, and delivery.
What to Consider Before Doing It Again
Before starting a second surrogacy journey, it’s important to reflect on the following:
Am I fully recovered—physically and emotionally?
Even if your recovery was smooth, give your body and mind the time they need to rest and reset.
How does my family feel about it?
Surrogacy is a shared experience. Make sure your partner, children, or support system are on board again.
Am I prepared for a potentially different experience?
No two surrogacy journeys are exactly alike. Keep an open mind and flexible expectations.
